Wind Power

Wind turbines harness the power to produce electricity.

They have many advantages, such as:

  • Using a non-depletable resource – the wind can’t be “used up” like fossil fuels
  • The design of the turbines can be attractive to many people
  • Uncommonly used

There are however many drawbacks:

  • Less reliable power – wind is not constant or steady
  • Complex and so require more maintenance
  • Cost much more than an equivalent solar system
  • Turbines can be loud enough to cause problems

In the right situations they can be a good backup power generator to a solar system; we do not recommend using them as a main source of power.
